About Matilda
Matilda Stray is a songwriter, vocalist, and producer based in Burbank, California. She began studying Russian-style classical piano at age five and later earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance under renowned pianist Dr. Grace Fong at Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory.
Her early classical training evolved into a fascination with production, synthesis, and composition—merging technical precision with emotional experimentation. This fusion of tradition and innovation defines her sound, bridging the worlds of songwriting, visual art, and cinematic storytelling.
Matilda’s career began assisting leading composers in film, television, and gaming. She worked with Greg Tripi on projects including The Fix (ABC, 2019) and Blumhouse’s Ma (2019), and later served as Studio Assistant to Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated composer Mac Quayle. During her tenure, she contributed to acclaimed productions such as Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, Ratched, The Politician, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and The Last of Us Part II.
As an internationally distributed composer with APM Music, Matilda’s work is featured on albums such as Mind Cycles, Beautiful World, and The Dark Side (Inside Tracks). She continues to contribute to global production libraries, specializing in topline writing and vocal-driven compositions.
Her recent projects span songwriting for major video game titles including Bayonetta, AFK Journey, T3 Arena, and Quantaar. Her clients include Nintendo, Disney, Lilith Games, Tencent, XD, GungHo Online Entertainment, and Universal Music Hong Kong. She is also featured on the award-winning Star Wars Outlaws soundtrack.
Matilda’s signature lies in her expressive, shape-shifting voice—ranging from cinematic trailer vocals to ethereal pop. She blends vocal design with production to create a sound uniquely her own. In addition to songwriting and toplining, she has lent her voice to live broadcasts, podcasts, and voiceover projects.
Working from her studio in Burbank, Matilda collaborates with music, film, VR, and game professionals worldwide. Her self-produced debut EP, You Will Become a Song, encapsulates her evolution as an artist—melding discipline, emotion, and imagination into one cohesive vision.
